Thursday Tabletop: Mural to Main Course Masterpiece

This week I volunteered at The Choral Arts Society's holiday benefit dinner. Yes, as you can imagine it takes a lot of arm twisting for me to volunteer for anything associated with the word 'Gala', but I sucked it up, put on a fancy dress and went to work...trying not to drool on the pretty tables.

This year's 'Joyeux Noel' themed gala was inspired by a mural on the ceiling of the Paris Opera house by the artist Marc Chagal. The soft blush tones of the table and the gilt of the gold cane chairs brought the mural to life.

Here's what BizBash had to say about the event: To create a setting reminiscent of Chagall’s work, Kennedy Center lighting specialist Andre Barette made custom light projections of sections of the mural using gobos. The linens, gold curtains, and floral arrangements were also pulled from the colors of the mural. “We’re really picking up on the golds, burnt reds, and oranges,” said Emily Riffle, the society's director of development, who secured the rights to the image from the Opera National de Paris.

The Choral Arts Society promotes the art of choral music through amazing performances, community outreach and educational initiatives. Most performances are at the Kennedy Center, but they do have others throughout the year. The holiday benefit combines a performance, dinner and silent auction to raise funds for CA's initiatives.

A gift for me...you're too kind.

On the menu for the evening was a caramelized onion tart, duck cassoulet, and a cheese plate with fruits and nuts for dessert. As volunteers, we were busy little worker bees for this portion of the evening, but our dinner was great too.

Kennedy Center Roof Terrace
Guest danced the night away to music by Round Midnight with special guest, Jeff Baxter (Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers) . I was still worker-beeing at this point too, but we danced to the music in our own heads...some better than others.

And the lovely silent auction ladies for the night just also happened to be the entire membership of our bookclub,-The Novelistas! (faux arm twisting for sure!)

Reporting from the semi-front lines...behind the volunteer tables,
xoxo

P.S. See Choral Arts' last Christmas performance is this Sunday at the Kennedy Center.
I'll be there! Click here for ticket info.
